My Rights
Tuesday, June 26th, 2007Well, my publisher is going under… And, like a fool, I hung on to the end, hoping it would last until I found another. And now, I’m finding out that the contract I signed in good faith may not be held as valid in court, and I could potentially lose my rights to the work I slaved on for the better part of my life!
This, in my opinion, is the most blatant example of injustice in American law. When a contract is signed in good faith, and it includes direct mention of what happens in the case of a publisher going out of business or bankrupt, those words should be IRON-CLAD! They should be upheld by every court in the land, because the author has put not just their sweat and tears, but also their faith and trust, into that company and the contract it provided.
I am now pubicly, and loudly, demanding that the courts take contracts between authors and publishers seriously, and uphold all clauses contained therein as iron-clad acts of law and good faith. I will deem it my personal crusade, if this travesty continues.
I further demand that the publisher in question return ALL rights, for ALL of my work, to me ASAP.
